ביוגרפיה

Yevgeny Yontov was born in 1989 in Odessa, Ukraine, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1990. He began his piano studies at the age of six with Adela Umansky, and later received his B.Mus degree summa cum laude from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music in Tel-Aviv University, where he studied with Prof. Arie Vardi. He then moved to the USA and received his M.M. degree from the Yale School of Music, where he is currently studying with Prof. Boris Berman, while pursuing the D.M.A. degree.

As the gold medalist at the 63rd Wideman International Piano Competition in the USA, Yevgeny played numerous concerts across the country, including performances with orchestras in Florida, Arkansas and Louisiana. In addition, received the 1st prize in the Tel-Hai International Concerto Competition in Israel and the 4th prize in the International Piano Competition in Pinerolo, where he also received a special prize for an outstanding performance of a Beethoven Sonata in the finals.

In Israel, Yevgeny has won the 1st prizes in “Kol Ha'Musika” Young Artists Competition in Jerusalem, Clairmont Competition in Tel-Aviv, and the “Peak Moments” and “Psanter Le’Tamid” Competitions in Ashdod. He has also won additional prizes in the Pnina Salzman Competition in Kfar-Saba and in the Ariana Katz Competition in the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music in Tel-Aviv. In addition, Yevgeny has performed with several orchestras in Israel, including The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra "IBA", The Israeli Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion and The Israeli Chamber Orchestra, among others.

 

As an active chamber musician, Yevgeny has played chamber concerts in Israel, Europe, South America, Canada and the US, in venues that include Carnegie Hall in New York and the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington D.C., with colleagues as well as with distinguished artists, such as the clarinetist David Shifrin and the violist Paul Neubauer. He has also performed in numerous festivals, most recently as a Protege Artist in “Chamber Music Northwest,” Portland, Oregon.

 

As a solo artist, he has performed on stages in Israel and the US, and in many countries in Europe, including Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Holland and Georgia. He also performed on Israeli national TV, and recorded for the Israeli and Portuguese radios.

Zefunot Culture awarded Yevgeny a scholarship for studies in Israel and abroad and supported him between the years 2010 and 2012.
